Evan Chebet Defends Title and Sets Record

In a thrilling display of athleticism, Kenyan athletes stole the show at the 2023 Boston Marathon. Evan Chebet proved his dominance by winning the men’s race for the second year in a row and setting a new record. Meanwhile, Hellen Obiri, a double world champion in the 5000m, won her first marathon title in only her second attempt.

Evan Chebet’s Remarkable Achievement

Evan Chebet secured his victory with a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 54 seconds, making him the first man to defend his Boston Marathon title since Robert Cheruiyot in 2008. His impressive performance also ranks as the third-best time in the history of the race. Chebet’s friend and fellow Kenyan Benson Kipruto finished third with a time of 2:06:06, while Gabriel Geay of Tanzania claimed second place with a time of 2:06:04.

Hellen Obiri Wins Women’s Category in Second Marathon

Hellen Obiri emerged victorious in the women’s category, finishing the race with a time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 38 seconds. The Olympic silver medalist faced stiff competition from Ethiopia’s Amane Beriso, but ultimately managed to pull away and secure the win. Obiri’s debut marathon in New York had resulted in a sixth-place finish, but she demonstrated her remarkable skills in Boston, winning her first marathon title in only her second attempt.
